3, 4, 7, 8
One of my favorite things that Kai says is "3, 4, 7, 8". It's his standard answer to a "Can you count" question. For example, I asked him how many stickers he had. He looked down and started poking the stickers randomly and said "3, 4, 7, 8". If you ask if there are any more he'll say "10!". It's so cute! What's funny is that he can count normally, he's just doing it because he knows that mommy thinks it's cute. He is quite a little jokster.
"White Man"
Kai learned his colors quite quickly. He knows lots of them--red, blue, yellow, green, pink, purple, orange, etc. For some reason, though, there are two colors that he consistently confuses--white and black. Yesterday morning we worked on it a bit, and he seemed to get it. But that's happened before and then he'll say something to indicate that it didn't stick. On our way out of Wal-Mart in the afternoon, Kai addressed the greeter saying "Bye Bye Man". He thought it was great and kept shouting "Bye Bye Man" as we walked away. And then before I knew it, "Bye Bye" changed to "White Man"!. Over and over he shouted "White Man, White Man". At least this time, he was right! I got a bit embarrassed, though, and started to move more quickly. Looking back, I was glad that it wasn't Michael Jackson! I'm not ready to explain that one yet!

HELP!!
We went shopping for Kai's outfit for my brother's wedding today, and I can't decide what he should wear. So, please look at my two choices and cast a vote on the poll in the right column. One outfit is significantly more expensive than the other (I won't say which, but those of you with kids can probably tell) and one is also a bit bigger. I figure once I wash it, it would be okay in size, but large enough for him to wear throughout the spring and maybe into the summer. So what do you think?
Outfit 1: Is this too cheesy? I've seen kids at church with these kind of outfits and frankly I think they're dorky/cheezy. But Kai loves having a "suit" and he looks pretty adorable in it I think.
Outfit 2: A bit more casual, but in general more my style. We could probably get more mileage out of this outfit..... (and yes there is a tie under this sweater vest, it's just a bit hard to see in the picture)

Crafts
My mother-in-law was extremely kind in purchasing us a sewing machine for Christmas a few years back. Unfortunately, it hasn't been used too much as I have spent the majority of my life completely terrified of sewing machines. (Some of which probably had more to do with being afraid that what I would make wouldn't be good enough than actual fear of the machine. Although that was there, too.) I have had good intentions, but have never actually followed through. So this past week and a half, I had her show me how to use it. She certainly had a lot more confidence in me than I had in myself. I was surprised to see how unfounded my fear was, and that I really could "make" something. In between shopping, visiting, and playing with Kai, we managed to get a few crafts done.
The first thing I did was make a pair of bean bags for Kai. Obviously they're not professional, but hey...it was my first project! And I did it in the middle of being told I had to leave my house because of a gas leak. Not too bad, in my opinion. Then we made a Curious George wall hanging for Kai's bathroom out of an old shirt of his. Finally, I made a pillowcase from some fabric that Joyce had brought out. She made a blanket for Kai out of it, and I made the pillowcase. I still need to finish the hems on the open end of the case, but other than that it's done. And it was easy! I'm excited. I think I have a few more things in mind to try now. We'll see how well I can do without coaching!

Grammy and Valentine's Day
Kai got a wonderful treat this week--a visit from Grammy! She arrived on Wednesday and will be staying through next Saturday. We are having a good time and enjoying her company. For Valentine's Day she helped Kai decorate his first sugar cookies. He did a good job and kept talking about the "pretzels", generally known as "sprinkles". All the new words can get confusing at times! We still have some cookies left from yesterday to decorate, so we may just do it again today. So fun!!

ABCs
Kai and I started nursery at the beginning of the year and so far it has been nothing but wonderful for Kai. He has grown to love playing with friends, doing puzzles, and singing. We sing our nursery songs throughout the week, as well as other songs that I know. In fact, on Sunday as we were sitting quietly on the pew, Kai began to sing. I couldn't recognize the words and since he was fairly quiet and entertaining himself, I let him keep going. It wasn't long before the family in front of us turned around, very excited. Turns out that they recognized the song as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". Once I listened closely I could hear it. They thought it was so cute.
Other than "Twinkle, Twinkle" he has been singing "Slippery Fish", and the "ABCs". In fact, he loves anything that has to do with the ABCs. He's getting pretty good, although he does have a way to go. Once again, I think this kid is too smart for his own good!

A Busy Day
Tuesday we had a very busy day--it was lots of fun! In the morning we had a scheduled playdate with some of Kai's friends--Celestia, Jack, and Mason. The kids had a good time playing, inside and outside. We then made a "picnic" lunch of mac and cheese, pretzels, and strawberries which we enjoyed on the living room floor. By the time we were done with that, it was definitely nap time. After naptime, his friends came back (they're siblings and their mom had a hair appointment, so we welcomed them back to play) bringing their bikes. We played for a few minutes indoors, and then went out to play. While Celestia rode her bike, the three boys enjoyed a ride in the wagon. Every one had a great time!

Watching TV
I know I've already posted a picture of Kai watching TV, but there has been some changes in the last few months. Here's the new TV watching set-up--I think Kai's living the good life!
