2 Months Old

Has it really only been two months?  It feels like a lot more than that.  A lot sure has happened in the last two months and sweet Bree has been a good sport about going along for the ride.  Here's just a little bit about our baby girl.

*Weighs 9 pounds 9 ounces and measures 22.5 inches long.  That's over a two inch gain in the last month and puts her at about the 54th percentile for height.  Wow!
*Sleeps quite well at night.  She normally has a stretch of anywhere from 4 to almost 6 hours at which point she'll eat and go right back to bed.  She follows that with another 3 hour stretch or so, and then normally about another hour.  She is also really good at settling herself down during the night and I can put her back in her bed drowsy but awake and she wiggles and kicks herself to sleep in about 10 minutes.  However, because she wiggles and kicks on her way to sleep, she has managed to get her feet dangling over the edge of her bed a couple of times.
*Speaking of wiggling and kicking, she has figured out how to move herself.  I've had at least three cases of putting her on a blanket only to come back and find that she has moved herself.  Isn't it too early for that???!
*She takes 4 or 5 naps a day and prefers for them to be in mommy's arms at all times.  If not, they tend to be short naps until she is completely exhausted and then it may run a little longer.
*She has started to coo at us when we talk to her and it melts my heart.  I love her little voice.
*She also has a little chuckle that she does that is equally adorable.
*I'm pretty sure she recognizes her brothers now and I am also pretty sure that she loves them more than me at times!  :)
*She was born with hemorrhages in both eyes.  At one month, her left eye was almost healed but the right eye was still looking pretty bad.  They have both finally healed and her eyes seem to have settled into a pretty blue.
*She tries to comfort herself by sucking on her left fist.  She really doesn't even suck it, she just tastes it and sometimes just the taste is enough for her eyes to start to roll in her head.
*She still doesn't like her carseat and won't normally sleep in it unless we are out for a longer errand.  Even then, she pops right back up when the car stops.  Only if she's really sleep deprived will she actually continue to take a nap in her seat after our errand is done.  I think she did that once, maybe twice, the entire month.

Notice how she wiggled her way down?  She has to kick her legs as she's falling alseep.

This picture was taken on her 2 month day which was a Saturday.  She had her well-check the day before (Friday) and got her vaccinations.  After the appointment, though, she crashed.  She went to bed quite early (around 6pm), only got up twice to eat during the night (one of which I kind of pushed on her) and didn't "wake up" until about 7:30 am and then kept trying to go back to sleep.  I put her in her bouncer while I took a quick shower and came out to find this.  She wouldn't even sleep in this the day she came home from the hospital--it was too bouncy for her.  So, you know she must have been wiped out.  She had me worried for a bit, but by the afternoon I decided she was ok, just tired, and I needed to enjoy it.

One more cute shot
*PS.  I know it's been a bit of the Bree show lately on the blog, but I promise there is more coming up of the boys soon.  They just don't let me take pictures of them as easily as Bree!

Catching Smiles and more

June 12th (Don't mind the cradle cap.  Poor thing looked like this for about a week.)

June 13th

One of her impish looks

June 17th
I get kicked out of my bed some mornings

Whie Kai was at a School Crossing class, Finn and I discovered this neat park.  See him watching that girl?

Now he gets it!

June 19th
Playing Legos with Daddy (who builds really big "guns" for them)

June 20th
Reid's Father's Day card from the boys.  Look who wrote his name by himself!!

Someone has decided she can only nap while being held.

June 21st
All snuggled up in her bed at night.  She HAS to be swaddled or she doesn't sleep.

June 24th
And after not sleeping for a few days, she looks like this.

June 27th
Happy after getting a good nap.

Finn has come down with a cold and so the boys have been spending a lot of time indoors.  One day they played this ALL day.  But it kept Finn away from Bree, so that was a plus.  We've definitely been a lot more limiting the last few days.  I think they actually got a bit tired of the game (Disneyland on the Kinect--here they are skiing with Goofy)

Too cute to not include

"But mom, I HAVE to climb", said the boy who thinks he is Spiderman!  It stinks to be stuck inside when you are sick.

Burning up.....again

On June 10th I took this picture.  It had suddenly gotten very hot out here.  Just days before this picture I had begun to think that Bree would never actually use her summer clothes, but clearly I was wrong.  We had a couple of days of this weather, but I honestly didn't think much of it.

On June 11th the boys were out playing when around 2:30 I noticed a puff of smoke off over the hill.  At first I thought it was a cloud, but it only took a few more seconds to realize it was smoke.  I pointed it out to the boys and then looked for the news on my phone.  I quickly found that it was a fire in Black Forest, but I honestly wasn't too concerned about it.  We had had several small fires in the days leading up to this and I thought this would be another one of those.  The sheer number of fires was concerning to me, but I didn't ever expect another big fire like we had last year.  I was wrong.

Within hours it became apparent that this wasn't going out any time soon.  By 5 o'clock the puff of smoke had turned into a wall and there were reports that homes were on fire.  Reid listened to the police scanner only to hear them saying "Move back".  In other words, the fire was too hot and the winds too strong that they couldn't even begin to contain it.  Within 36 hours we had a type 1 incident team on scene and the fire was raging completely out of control.  It took just over a week to contain the fire, not all that long in comparison to the Waldo Canyon fire last year but a lot more destructive.  In all over 580 homes were destroyed and thousands had been evacuated.  We were even on pre-evacuation notice and had gathered up our "valuables" and loaded the car.  A strong smoke smell permeated our house two times in that week, which had me the most concerned, but thankfully both Finn and Bree seemed to handle it well.

My heart goes out to those who lost so much and to the family of the two who lost their lives,  I will never underestimate a fire again.  And I seriously hope we will never see another one out here again.

Nothing's better than a brother

Bree is loved by her brothers (sometimes a little too much) and she sure seems to love them, too.

Bree's Newborn Pictures

A collection of some of my favorites!

Ok, who am I kidding?  That was just about all of them!

Cousin Fun

At the beginning of the month we were lucky enough to have the boys' Utah cousins stop for a visit on their way out to visit Grammy and Papa (in Elgin, Illinois).  They arrived on a Saturday evening and stayed through Wednesday morning.  It has been 2 1/2 years since we had seen these cousins and I was immediately surprised by how much they have grown up.  Collin is now 14 (!) and Warner is 11.  Despite the age difference, they were great playing with my boys.  Finn called them his "friends" and loved to drag them around with him everywhere!
Me and Bree....she looks a little funny here, but it's not often that I get a picture of  me with her, so I'll take it.

The first day was Sunday, and also Stake Conference.  So, we enjoyed the day at home and in the afternoon Reid and our boys, and Kara (Reid's sister) and her boys headed out to Garden of the Gods.

Kara asked everyone to turn around and our boys just started waving on their own.

Balanced Rock

On Monday Finn had a clinic visit in the morning, so it was a lazy morning.  In the afternoon, they all headed out again to take a tour of the Olympic Training Center.

Tuesday morning, Kara and her boys went ice skating.  After that, they met up with Reid and the boys at the zoo.
A wallaby I think.  Maybe Reid has more pictures from this day?

It was a fun and busy 3 days, but we really enjoyed the time.  Kara was a great baby holder and helper around the house, and the boys loved having someone to play with.  Wednesday after they left just seemed a little empty without them.  Now that they know how easy of a drive it is, we're hoping to get to see them more often!
Saying goodbye to the cousins
