Funny

This afternoon Kai hopped off of the couch and said. "I'm going to get off of the couch and go play.  That's my deal."

How do you not laugh at that??

3 (and a HALF!)

On Sunday, Kai officially turned 3 and a half.  Man, does time go way too fast?!!  There are a few things that he's doing now that I have wanted to remember.  So, just indulge me.....or skip this post.

Kai has really started to pick up on expressions.  Some of the ones that have made me laugh in the last week have been "Mom, can you believe your eyes?" and "The mountains are so close I can almost touch them!"  He's full of them right now and I wish I could remember more.  Maybe over the next few days I'll try writing them down.

Kai has also gotten quite good at telling stories.  I can't decide if these stories are outright "lies" or if they are just him trying to get creative.  Either way, the stories get pretty big and outlandish and I never know what to take as truth and what is just part of the story.

Finally, and most importantly, Kai has started to potty train!  Yahoo!!  Last week I realized that we had been in the house for over a week and that the calendar was still empty for weeks to come.  I thought we should capitalize on it and potty train.  Kai didn't want to have anything to do with it.  On Thursday, while we were playing trains, I noticed him taking his usual "I have to fill my pants" stance and I started persuading.  Once I offered him skittles for running up to the potty, he was sold.  That first day we did a lot of running around in just a shirt (no pants) and he did really well.  Only three accidents the whole day (and one was really little).  On Friday we started with underwear and had several accidents.  So then we returned to the naked state.  He did much better.  By mid-Saturday we put pants on him and he was doing well.  Little accidents before he would go to the potty but not bad.  Sunday he was accident-free!!  Amazing!  He woke on Monday with a completely dry pull-up and remained accident-free until dinner.  He had a small accident at the dinner table, but then ran to the potty.  He's been doing fantastic!  Admittedly, those first few days he was getting more sugar than anyone should, but it seems that it made it worth his while.  He now tells me that he's going to use the potty every day!

Kai before church on Sunday.  He was doing "Risky Business" and I didn't want to put his khakis on until we had to leave.  He did wear a pull-up to church but then right after he went back to his underwear.  He's doing so great!

We sure do have a great kid and I love my 3 (and a half) year-old!

Quick Conversation with Kai

We were talking about jobs the other day and I asked Kai if he knew what Daddy's job was.  He didn't so I told him that Daddy was a software engineer.  Then I asked him if he knew what Momma's job was.

Kai:  "I don't know.  You tell me."
Me:  "I'm a Momma.  That's my job."
Kai:  "No.  You wash the dishes."

Well, at least someone notices!

Board Book

I love Heritage Makers and wish I did more of them.  I see all kinds of neat projects and almost do them, but I start thinking, "Where am I going to put that?"  I think my biggest problem is home decoarting.  I just don't know what to put where or how big it should be, etc.  Uggh, I need help.

But I always know what to do with books.  I've been making a board book for Finn for Christmas and it's just about done.  Thought I'd share it.  Hopefully a couple of other projects will follow soon!

Medication

I was fairly confident that Finn had a fever on Monday morning, but the rest of the day he was fine.  I was hoping it was a fluke.  On Tuesday afternoon he started having a fever again, and it's still going.  Add in that he started coughing Tuesday night every time I laid him down, and I'm one tired momma.  Whenever he starts to cough the pulmonologist puts him on an antibiotic.  Also, as of August we've had pulmozyne in our refrigerator to use with his nebulizer when he's coughing and congested.  So, in total, Finn now has 8 daily medications as well as his normal 2 times a day chest therapy!!  I had to make a checklist this morning to keep it all straight.  And admittedly in the middle of the night last night I got it wrong.  Oh well.....it doesn't seem to have hurt him.  Here's his "I'm sick" list of medications:

1.  Creon (with every meal--normal)
2.  Prevacid (once a day in the morning--normal)
3.  Vitamax (2mL once a day--normal)
4.  Salt (1/4 tsp throughout the day)
5.  Tylenol
6.  Ibuprofen (alternating every 2-3 hours with the Tylenol for his fever)
7.  Pulmozyne (once a day through the nebulizer, to be followed by chest therapy)
8.  Bactrum (an antibiotic--4.5 mL twice a day)

Are you confused yet??  I am!

PS.  You should have seen the spellcheck on this.  Let's just say blogger doesn't recognize medication names.

Halloween 2010

I'll admit, I wasn't really in the Halloween spirit this year.  I'm not sure why.  I did enjoy eating an entire CostCo bag of candy (we're on bag 2 now), so I guess that's something.  Anyway, our ward had a carnival and Trunk-or-Treat with the other ward that meets in our building.  It was a lot of fun!  I love that no one trick-or-treats in our neighborhood.  Kai has never been exposed to the door-to-door aspect of the holiday and so for him Halloween is only trunk-or-treating at church.  I'm not sure how much longer that will last, but it's been nice.  Halloween was on Saturday and he had no idea there was any other option!!

Kai was a dinosaur this year.  He LOVES dinosaurs right now!

Finn was our little lion.  And, yes, he was a handful.

The carnival lasted about an hour.  We were done after 30 minutes and so we found a side room to contain the boys, wait for trunk-or-treat, and give Finn a bottle.  Finn loved the duck pond at the carnival and whenever I  put him down he ran straight for it and got himself soaking wet!  So, the room was a good containment device.  Kai was getting sick on Saturday and so was a bit tired and decided to take a rest on his dinosaur costume.

Once the trunk-or-treat started, Finn and I stayed inside while Reid and Kai went out.  Reid reported that Kai was so happy and excited.  He giggled the entire time and had a hard time even getting out the words "Trick or Treat".  He was always very polite and made sure to say "Thank you" and that even won him a few extra pieces of candy.  Overall, the night was a great success.

Of course, the next morning, Kai was not fit to go to nursery.  He had a runny nose mostly.  So, I stayed home with the boys.  We decided to venture to some friends for Halloween dinner and we had a fabulous time.  Kai even enjoyed handing out candy, while I tried to creatively explain that everyone was just late for Halloween.  When we woke up on Monday morning, though, everyone was sick.  Kai is coughing and congested and just worn down.  Finn is super congested and has a runny nose.  No coughing yet, but I expect it's coming.  So, now we're hanging out at home for the week and contemplating putting up the Christmas decorations.  I know it's not Thanksgiving yet, but I've been the fall Scrooge.....I so just want to be at Christmas.  So, don't be surprised if my tree is up in the next couple of weeks.  I've warned you!!

Eating With Finn

Finn has been eating with us consistently for the last month or so.  I've found that I can give him some finger foods to keep him busy for a while, allowing me to eat, and then I top him off with baby food.  Last week he was so hungry that I fed him baby food first and then I gave him a brownie as his finger food/dessert while I ate.  This is what happened!  After he was done making a mess I put him straight into the bath tub!!

Leaf Blowing With Daddy

This year Reid got a leaf blower.  In the last couple of weeks, we've had the opportunity to put it to good use.  Normally Kai is quite afraid of loud noises (such as the vacuum, my hairdryer, etc.), so we were surprised when Kai LOVED blowing the leaves with Daddy.  He had a really good time!
