Kai's Observations

Last week as I picked Kai up from his school, his teacher Ms. Cathy asked him if he wanted to show me something.  She then pulls out a clipboard with this on it.

Ms. Cathy explained to me that they were using a microscope and a magnifying glass at school that day and had offered this paper to the kids to write down their observations.  Of course, Kai jumped at the chance!  These are Kai' observations.  She told me that she didn't ask him what they meant, so I told her that we should.  Kai then went on to tell me what each group of letters meant.  For example, "LOS" means lots, "BEGR" is bigger, "FRS" is furs, and "FUZ" is fuzz.  She was very impressed and turned to Ms. Elizabeth (Kai's main teacher) and told her that Kai was actually sounding out real words.  It was at that point that Ms. Elizabeth commented that she was not surprised and that she had noticed that Kai and one other little girl in the class were ready to be reading.  She told me that she has plans to start working with them on their Kindergarten sight words in the next week or two.  I am so excited!  This is exactly why I took Kai to the elementary school for preschool.  I love that they can get him started on Kindergarten work, and I'm so glad that his teacher has picked-up on his readiness.  I have been thrilled with the program thus far, and this makes it even better.  Yay for good teachers!

PS.  Kai drew the arrows to point to each word as he told us what each one meant.  Just in case you were wondering why there are arrows all over the place.  :)
