Fourth of July

For the 4th this year, we were lucky to have my brother Rob and his new wife, Isis, come out for a visit.  Unfortunately, the fire was still burning and so all of the local events were cancelled.  We were particularly disappointed about the parade being cancelled.  However, Rob and Isis arrived on the evening of the 3rd.  On the 4th we were able to just hang-out at home, cook lots of food, and visit.  It was a good, but hot, day.

On the 5th of July we decided to head down to Pueblo (since there was nothing indoors here in the Springs that we were interested in doing).  We went with the idea of visiting the Children's Museum, which advertised that they were ranked 2nd in the nation.  Hmmm.....I have no idea who does the rankings, but I figure they must have only ever been to 2 children's museums.  I have been to 2 others and both were far and away better than this one.  We were very disappointed in this place.  After just a short time we decided to head to the River Walk to see what it was about.  We were intrigued enough to take a boat tour, which was fun.  We found out that over the next 20 years there are plans to expand the River Walk with the hopes that it will one day be comparable to that in San Antonio.  Construction on the walk began about 10 years ago, and they still have a ways to go.  But it was a fun place to hang out.  Once again, though, it was HOT (about 100 degrees or so!).

On Friday the 6th, the boys had soccer class so we took Rob and Isis out to the park to see.  The boys played soccer while their Aunt and Uncle took a walk and then we all played at the playground.  In the afternoon we took them over to the Y for swimming.  Kai enjoyed having someone else to play with in the pool.

Finally on Saturday the 7th, we headed to the aquarium.  The boys had a good time.  Poor Finn fell asleep right as we arrived and was sleeping very well in his stroller when we arrived at the flash flood exhibit.  The exhibit seemed to incorporate more water than we remembered and so Finn experienced a rude awakening when he was sufficiently splashed.  I felt bad!

After the aquarium, we went out to Black Eyed Pea for dinner (Kai's favorite restaurant).  It was a great way to end Rob and Isis' trip, as they were leaving early the next morning.

We had a good 4th and were happy that we didn't melt away.  We were also happy to see the fire reach full containment that weekend, and the smoke finally began to clear.  It was strange to head back outside to play and realize that it had been a full two-weeks since we had done so.  And the boys enjoyed the visit from their Aunt and Uncle and would love to see them come visit again.  We do, however, look forward to a parade and a normal 4th next year!  (at least, that's what we are hoping for)
