Growing Up

Maybe it's because Finn has an older brother around, but I often find myself forgetting just how old he actually is.  I can't believe that in just a couple of short months he will be 3!  Seriously, someone pinch me!  We moved Kai to a "big boy bed" when he was just two and half.  Unfortunately, not long after that move Kai decided to drop naps entirely.  We fought him for several months and were able to drag it out to almost his 3rd birthday, but that's where it stopped.

I had been trying hard all summer to keep Finn in his crib, with his nap, and his normal bedtime.  Unfortunately, his bedtime kept getting later, and he was sleeping less at night.  So, I tried shortening nap time, and it just wasn't working.  Bedtime had become a pretty difficult experience for me and so on Thursday July 26th we put together Finn's twin bed.  He now has the bottom bed of our bunk bed set.
Finn really wanted a race car bed.  It took a few days to realize that he really wanted Cars bedding (Lightening McQueen).  Since we do not want to buy character-themed bedding that will change every time their opinion does, we have decided that for now he will use Kai's old bedding.  Kai, in turn, picked out new rocket bedding from Target.  We'll get Finn something, I just want to make sure it's something he loves before we decide on it, though.

Honestly, Finn was not excited about switching beds.  And my concerns about nap time were validated the very next day.  In the 2 weeks since we have switched beds, Finn has taken a total of 4 naps.  He just will not lay down for a nap in that bed.  On the positive side, however, he is sleeping very well at night (a good 11 to 12 hours) and he doesn't get up.  He will wake up and wait in his bed for me to come get him.  That's awesome in my book!  He did fall out of bed twice in those first few nights, so now we have the kitchen table chairs lined up against his bed and that has solved that problem.  It's nice to lay down and cuddle with him for a bit (as he is NOT a cuddler) and it's strange to realize that he is actually older and bigger than Kai was when he made the transition.  I love my little men and it's hard to see them grow up, but it's oh so fun, too!  Congratulations on your big boy bed, Finn!

To fit the bed in the room we took the recliner out into the living room (yay!) and moved the crib back into the corner of the bedroom.  It's now a crowded mess and will probably be that way for just a little while longer until we figure out what we want to do with everything.  Kai has rocket bedding but cars and trucks on his walls.  Finn still has monkeys and jungle animals.  Ahhhhhh......why are these decisions so hard?!

I'm glad he's doing so well in his new bed. We need to do it soon! BTW, Isaac loves Juan Aquin (Lightening McQueen) too. :)
