A Christmas Letter

Last year I mailed out Christmas cards for the first time--ever.  And I had every intention of making that task a tradition.  Well, here I sit on December 19th having not even designed a Christmas Card.  Seriously, why Christmas?  Does anyone want to join me in a new tradition--Easter cards?!  That time of year is just less hectic and springy.  It's much easier to have a current picture to send out and there's so much more time to do it.  Is anyone else in??

Well, until I get the guts to start my own new tradition, I'll keep with the old and post our Christmas card/letter here.

This year has been a full and fun year for our family.  We have had a lot to keep us busy and have enjoyed a lot of time together.  Some of the year's highlights include walking for the first time in Great Strides, our trip to Virginia Beach for our first ever family beach vacation, Wendy's wedding, and our Thanksgiving trip to Elgin.  Of course, we have all been busy with other things as well.  Here's a quick recap.

Reid continues to work for Lockheed Martin as a software engineer.  He is quickly approaching a decade of service!  Wow!  While Lockheed in Colorado Springs has been feeling the effects of the economy we have felt blessed and watched over as Reid has been able to continue to find positions at critical times and remain in the building closest to home.  It's certainly nice to have him just 15 minutes away!  In July, Reid gave us all a scare with a case of appendicitis.  But after one emergency surgery and a night at the hospital he was good to go.  He couldn't lift the boys for a few weeks and that proved hard for everyone in the house, but it was important that he heal.  And we're grateful that he did.

I continue to enjoy my time at home with the boys, who are growing up way too fast.  My days are filled with running Kai to school and soccer, making sure Finn gets his medicines and treatments, finding new things to feed the family, shopping for fantastic deals, attempting to keep the house somewhat neat, and getting down on the floor to play with the boys.  For the second year, I designed a summer adventure list and took the boys out to explore different kid-friendly places in Colorado.  It was fun and is quickly becoming a favorite summer tradition.  In July, I began working with our church's 8 year-old boys in Cub Scouts.  I'm finding it to be a lot of fun (just as long as I don't take deep breaths during our meetings!).

Kai finally potty-trained at the beginning of this year.  Yahoo!  He celebrated with a trip to the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center.  He still insists that he is going to be a paleontologist when he grows up, and loves wearing dinosaur shirts whenever he can.  In August he began preschool at our local elementary school.  He is a class with 15 other students and has quickly made friends.  He is doing well and truly loves to go to school.  Over the summer he started soccer and has continued that through the fall.  He has made some friends there as well.  He is a social kid who loves attention and affection.  He still asks for hugs from me multiple times a day and constantly says, "Mom, I love you."  Despite the fact that it would be nice to have him be a bit more independent, I do love having my "Mama's boy".  I know it won't last forever, so I'll take whatever I can get.

Finn has grown by leaps and bounds--literally.  He is a kid that jumps off of anything and everything he can find.  And, of course, he has to climb to get up there first.  He knows no fear when it comes to anything physical and he is a very physically active little boy.  He adores his brother and will follow him around the house 90% of the time.  He began talking this year and has the sweetest little voice you can imagine.  He has more words than I can count, but some of my favorites are words that are just his.  For example, a "go" is a car, a "moo" is a cow, a "rrrrooooarrr" is either a lion or dinosaur (depending on the context), and a "goo" is a crayon or color.  Both Finn and Kai love to draw together, as well as wrestle, play cars, airplanes.....you name it and they do it together.  Finn's little personality is starting to shine through and he is definitely developing his opinions.  As hard as it is "to be 2", it's also fun to really get to know him as an individual.  Finally, Finn has been blessed with good health this year, for which we are very grateful.  We feel blessed to have him in our family.

2011 has been good to our family.  We look forward to 2012 and it all it has to bring.  We send our love and appreciation to family and friends both near and far.  We feel blessed to have you in our lives and wish you the very merriest of Christmas seasons!  If you're ever in our area, please let us know.  We'd love to have you stop by!
